Financial Controller - New York, NY

The Financial Controller oversees corporate financial reporting & treasury and is responsible for (i) the submission of timely, accurate, and useful data to chief decision makers (ii) supporting business planning & analytics of the organization (iii) effective use of financial resources to support ongoing operation (iv) compliance of financial reporting with all regulatory and statutory requirements.  This position reports directly to the VP – Corporate Finance and Operations.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand and communicate guidelines and policies for the Americas region.
  • Coordinate with commercial finance and business analysts to produce forward looking views of financial performance.  Scrutinize budget models, inputs and provide timely, strategic, and insightful views on the forward looking direction of our business.
  • Act as the organization's key resource for understanding all elements of overhead and back office costs, and influence improvement in the efficiency and effectiveness of costs. 
  • Evaluate, analyze and project future costs based on the strategic vision of senior leadership.
  • Continually innovate existing reporting capabilities and processes to ensure relevant and accurate financial data is getting distributed to key constituents regularly.
  • Perform controller function with responsibility for reporting accurate business results by product, division, brand to global organization.
  • Perform interrogative analysis by brand, division, product, state and challenge finance team to provide relevant insight into risks & opportunities in short-term and long-term planning.
  • Act as key liaison to global finance for understanding any detailed trend, KPI, R&O.
  • Lead team towards production of monthly reported results with relevant commentary into areas of performance.
  • Oversee financial statement audit and ensure compliance of financial statements and internal controls with GAAP.
  • Coordinate compliance with state & local income tax requirements.
  • Oversee treasury and management of financial assets, as well as working capital
  • Ensure continued compliance with banking covenants and continually assess financing needs of
  • Scrutinize balance sheet results and ensure working capital KPI’s maintained within thresholds.
  • Oversee banking relationships and manage continued compliance with banking covenants.
  • Manage appropriate staffing and headcount of department

Knowledge, Skills & Core Competences Required

  • MBA or Advanced Degree preferred
  • Finance Accreditation e.g. CPA, CFA, preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in an accounting or finance role with heavy use of financial systems
  • Computer Savvy with experience using large ERP systems
  • Experience using SAP required
  • Proven track-record of implementing best in class financial processes and analytics
  • Experience in leading a finance department
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP and financial accounting concepts
  • Experience leading large teams through periods of change
  • Ability to analyse and identify key trends in financial information
  • Experience in an international finance environment and foreign currency
  • Ability to research and provide direction on appropriate accounting treatment
  • Strong preference for Wine & Spirits or related industry experience
  • Excellent communication skills & business acumen
  • Strong presentation skills and executive presence
  • Ability to manage teams of 5 or more people
  • Ability to operate at 50,000 and 1,000 feet and adaptable to the needs of the organization.
  • Eligible to legally work in the US
  • Must be 21 years of age
