Accounting and Tax Manager - Mexico - Mexico City

The Accounting & Tax Manager is responsible for the accuracy and integrity of the financial statements, responsible for managing all aspects of accounting, financial reporting, compliance & controls and implement/execute policies and accounting memos for Edrington Mexico; and management and development of the local finance team.  He/She is also responsible for managing all aspects of tax compliance with the local statutory tax obligations of the Mexico entities, local tax planning and transfer pricing; management and development of the tax aspects for the company´s initiatives or projects and manage financial aspects of the fixed assets of the company.

He/She is required to have excellent technical accounting and tax skills for local and international issues, such as local statutory requirements and IFRS. The incumbent will have demonstrated skills in project management, effective communication, business partnering, and team leadership. This position will be responsible for identifying best practices and consistently implement process improvement for accounting processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Accounting and reporting compared to budget and previous periods, including  compliance with local Mexican NIF and IFRS accounting policies
  • Internal Controls – Sarbanes Oxley, FCPA and local controls
  • Lead the month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial closing process
  • Lead accounting policies, procedures and accounting memos process
  • Ensure that financial audits are handled smoothly and that there are no unresolved audit issues 
  • Ensures compliance with all existing and new tax regulations, including all tax returns submissions
  • Review of federal and state income tax returns (VAT, IEPS, IDE, ISR, SS etc.  )
  • Performs complex tax research and prepares research memoranda, written correspondence/guidance, and other documents for submission to taxing authorities
  • Analyses tax advisors, auditors and tax authority’s notices and prepare responses
  • Responsible for establishing engagement letters and all related compliance framework with auditors for tax matters and transfer price studies
  • Prepares tax planning and estimates and becomes involved in planning for the company´s current and new transactions and business models.  Coordination of tax planning to reduce tax risks to the Company
  • Actively involved with the financial budget process
  • Actively involved in projects and be the lead for accounting and tax matters
  • Proactively identify tax risks related to new business channels or transactions
  • Provides insights and drive business improvement outcomes
  • A strong team player and able to develop teams
  • Business partner with other areas for business decisions, accounting, reporting and tax related matters

Knowledge, Skills & Core Competencies Required

  • Bachelor’s in Finance and/or Accounting (CPA or Mexican accounting/tax certification equivalent)
  • 5+ years of accounting/tax experience in consumer packaged goods or equivalent
  • Experience with Mexican statutory requirements
  • Alcohol beverage industry background preferred (or other consumer packaged goods)
  • Luxury experience preferred
  • Passion for business partnering and business building
  • Strong interpersonal skills – a team player
  • Able to influence, connect and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Complete financial understanding of all P&L elements and performance indicators
  • Strong analytical skills – Ability to analyse data to recommend the proper actions to ensure the brand meets/exceeds yearly objectives
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • High proficiency with Excel require
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Strong Presenter and persuasive, confident public speaker
  • High level of proficiency in English required
  • Experience working and implementing  SAP or similar ERP system preferred
  • Knowledge of IFRS and MEXGAAP referred
  • At least 18 years of age
